staying at Apoka safari lodge

As far as game lodges in Uganda go, I can say I’ve found a favorite spot, nestled in Kidepo Valley National Park. Our experience started the moment we drove into the lodge’s entrance and were met by three smartly dressed staff, with a refreshing glass of lemonade.

We sank into the comfortable leather seats as we were taken through a brief orientation. This is a special place to take the ones you love, to spend some quality time together. It is a 5 star lodge with 10 cottages each with a unique view of the park which indicates that the focus is in the quality over quantity.

You are offered a personal butler who caters to your every need, and are advised to call for a guide should you wish to walk to your room in the night.

The viewing deck that is close to the main reception is an incredible place to sit and relax, with some beautiful views overlooking the cottages and the park. Breakfast here was absolutely perfect!

Our cottage was very spacious, tastefully decorated with rich dark wood, offering a big bed with soft duvets, draped with mosquito nets, hand-woven woolen carpets, plush towels, over-sized dressing gowns and exquisite views over Kidepo National park. It felt extremely relaxed and clam here, especially relaxing on the veranda and having breakfast in the sitting room. In total there are 10 expansive cottages with endless views across the savannah.

The bathroom shower is large and there is a large soaking bathtub right outside perfect for just sitting and relaxing whilst enjoying the sweeping views and occasional water-bucks and buffaloes that stroll by.

After the game drive and walk, we took a dip in the deep, beautiful, cool swimming pool carved out of big rock. The pool is simply enticing and perfect for you to unwind with a cold drink.

Tip: this beautiful pool looks really tempting for you to jump or dive in yelling, but be careful as it is quite rocky underneath.

Apoka guarantees good food with stunning views. It was a delight to be woken up with a selection of fresh muffins and green tea, fruit and fresh juice. The viewing deck is a perfect spot for breakfast. Lunch by the pool was also ultra-pleasant. I fell in love with these two spots. There are super comfy loungers for you to relax after you swim.

I can’t stop talking about my amazing experience here, which was made excellent by the comfort in the rooms, our amazing guide Julius, who shared with us so much about the animals and birds. We got to explore fully thanks to him.

Apoka has established great experience accumulated over the years to cater to making everything blend perfectly, from the game drive to the rooms and food! It was worthwhile because the staff also pay attention to your every need and make you feel pampered.

Have you been to Apoka Safari Lodge? What did you think? I’d love to hear from you 🙂
